“Wildman" Steve Brill will present a foraging workshop for the Cornwall community on Friday, May 25th, 4:30-6:30pm. He will focus on common renewable wild edible and medicinal plants. Participants will see, touch, smell, taste, and collect representative species of the wild edible and medicinal herbs, greens, flowers, roots, and mushrooms that constitute the backbone of our local ecosystems.

During the workshop, Steve will approach wild plants from various perspectives, beginning with plant identification and including botanical and ecological concepts, using stories and humor to bring the information to life. Tales come from natural and human history, as well as from his personal experience. He will include ethnobotany traditions of plant use for food, medicine, and crafts, as well as vegan whole-foods cooking concepts, original botanical art, music, and some of the ways folk wisdom complements science.

The public is invited to a Community Program 4:30-6:30pm at CCS. Please come with plastic bags for foraging and be prepared with appropriate clothing to spend several hours outside (no open-toed shoes, please). Digging implements are optional. Steve will bring copies of his books for those interested. All interested participants should meet at 5 Cream Hill Rd. West Cornwall CT.

This event is generously sponsored by the Cornwall Conservation Trust.
